The ES-NL tech corridor in numbers
A year ago it started to stand out to us: we were working for a car dealership in Alicante, a fontanero in Benidorm and at the same time for Dutch SaaS founders living in Spain. At first that seemed like coincidence. Now we know better.
CBS figures: 53,000 Dutch people are officially based in Spain, 6,500 Dutch companies operate actively in the Spanish market. The reverse direction: 8,900 Spanish companies sell actively to the Netherlands (source: Kamer van Koophandel, 2025 Q4). That's a corridor of about 15,000 businesses with multilateral needs.
What those businesses have in common: double VAT/IVA complexity, double payment preferences (iDEAL vs Bizum), double legal language. Most agencies handle one side of the border. We are, as far as we can trace, the only studio that focuses on it explicitly.
Three groups within the corridor are the most valuable: (1) Spanish trade businesses serving Dutch expat clients (estate agents, contractors, taller's), where the website is the primary acquisition engine. (2) Dutch SaaS founders working remotely from Spain, where custom software is needed. (3) Mid-sized NL companies that want to expand into Spanish markets, where multilingual marketing-site content is the biggest win.
An interesting side effect: by delivering every client site in NL and ES at the same time, our Google Search Console data is a kind of longitudinal study of corridor trends. Keywords that show parallel growth in ES and NL are our leading indicators for where the corridor is moving.
We're working on making quarterly reports about this available to subscribers, an ES-NL digital trends quarterly. If you're interested: email us and we'll put you on the list as soon as the newsletter goes live.
